Suspect Shot in Leg After Allegedly Firing into Home

Ocala police are continuing to investigate a case where a man received a gunshot wound after allegedly shooting into an occupied house on Southwest Silver Springs Place. Officers were called to a house at around 4:45 in the morning recently after receiving reports of gun fire in the area. An unnamed resident at the home said that a man and possibly a second suspect fired a shot into the home that morning. The resident returned fire and shot the suspect in the leg. The man left the area but was located a few blocks away. He was not found to have a weapon in his possession.

The suspect, 28-year-old S.R., was transported to the hospital for treatment of the non-life threatening leg injury. After his release, police took S.R. into custody and charged him with aggravated assault with a firearm. Detectives are looking into the case to discover what the motives were in the incident and if there was in fact a second suspect at the time of the shooting.

About Assault Charges

Assault charges involving the use of a deadly weapon, serious injury, threats of causing physical injury or other such circumstances are usually felonies. For example, if you are accused of a simple assault offense that did not result in serious injury to another but you had a gun, knife, bat or other object which could be construed as a weapon at the time of the alleged incident then you could be charged with assault with a deadly weapon. This is punishable by up to five years in prison and $5,000 in fines as well as other penalties.
